History

Established in August 1996, Susan’s Early Learning Center began as an in-home daycare with 6 children. As interest grew, Susan decided to open a larger facility. On February 26, 1997, Susan’s Early Learning Center was licensed and opened. In 2000, additions were made and a 2 classroom building was added. Then again in 2003, another addition was made to accommodate the growing enrollment, adding 2 more classrooms to the facility. Today, the average enrollment is 60 children.

Owner

Susan McCord Hawkins is Owner and Director of Susan’s Early Learning Center. She is a native of LaGrange and has lived here all of her life. She has been married to her husband Mike for 30 years. They have attended Lanier Baptist Church in Lanett, AL for 13 years where Mike is the Pastor and Susan the Pianist. They have 3 daughters; Ashley, April and Afton. Ashley is a freelance Pianist in the LaGrange area, Afton, a junior at Columbus State University and April, an Administrative Assistant with Comprehensive Search. April is married to Jeff Shattuck and they have a son Parker. Susan’s parents are Rev. Max and Mrs. Marion McCord of LaGrange and she has 2 sisters, Sharon Alford and Stacey Hardigree.
